Magical Mystery Doors - Beatles, Zeppelin, & Doors Tribute Worcester Concert reviews
Poor Event Management
Let me say that as a true fan of Magical Mystery Doors - Beatles, Zeppelin, & Doors Tribute like me, you will adore her live voice. Her voice at the Arie Crown concert was superior to what you hear on her CDs, displaying incredible vocal control. She even performed an 80's Whitney Houston song that even Whitney can no longer sing. However, the concert was supposed to start at 8, but the first act, Chrisette Michelle, didn't begin until a little after 8:30, which was acceptable. She sounded good live, but I was not a fan of the one LONELY background singer on the vast open stage with nothing happening in the background.
Later on, more than 60 minutes passed before Musiq took the stage. His voice was good, but he kept wandering away from the mic, dancing, while the band played rock n roll remixes to every song. It was hard to discern which song Musiq was singing until the hook came in. Following Musiq, a half hour later, Monica appeared. Each singer performed for an average of 30 minutes, except for Monica, who continued singing until midnight... even though the concert started at 8 pm!
Throughout the event, there was a disjointed clown minstrel show with sporadic foul language from the host, creating an atmosphere where it felt like he was doing us a favor by being there. The audience participated in activities like the "wobble dance" and the "put a ring on it dance," interrupted by a lively male doing the "put a rang on it" dance. The crowd laughed and cheered simultaneously.
Monica eventually took the stage and delivered a solid performance, singing 25 minutes of her songs to the DJ's tracks. After her first song, she corrected the show's host, who is a WGCI personality, highlighting the overall chaotic nature of the event. At times, individuals in the balcony were booing and heckling the host between acts. At one point, the host even cursed at those booing him, announcing that there would be another 30-minute wait before Monica's next performance. By then, it was after 10 pm.
This concert felt disorganized, resembling a high school pep rally in any ghetto USA high school. It was not well-structured. I know someone who left after the first act to demand a refund, as the ticket cost over one hundred dollars. I've witnessed better concerts at the House of Blues for only 30 dollars.
